There's been a lot of speculation over which players, myself included, will join Wales' five new regional teams.
At the moment I'm just waiting to see what's happening, although there's been interest from a couple of regions.
It's a case of waiting to see how the coaching set-ups are, what kind of facilities there's going to be, and what kind of teams are going to shape together that I'd like to be a part of.
Realistically you're looking at another seven to 10 days for contracts to be thrashed out |
Having played for Swansea for so many years and never having got past the quarter-finals of the European Cup, the goal is to get further, win the competition, so it's important to weigh up which teams can do that, have got the ambition.
Swansea-Neath is an obvious choice, but Mike Ruddock - who will be coaching the Gwent side - played a huge part in my career eight years ago when he brought me down from London Welsh to join Swansea.
I came from a division four team and within 18 months he'd got me capped for Wales. So I've had a chat with him to see what his plans are.
There are a lot of players out of contract - especially at Swansea - but most people who have been comfortable at a club would like to stay in the regional set-up associated with it.
Mike Ruddock recruited Colin Charvis from London Welsh |
Swansea-Neath have signed Scott Gibbs on a long deal, and that's a great signing for them, but there's still some other top quality players who are free to join different clubs.
For example, as far as I know Darren Morris hasn't been approached by any of the Welsh regional sides.
Darren has had his critics, but there's no denying the facts that the guy was a British Lion and he's played a hell of a lot of Tests for Wales.
He's got a lot to offer when coached correctly but it paves the way for an English, French or Irish side to take him away from Wales.
For the last couple of months the players have wanted their futures sorted out, but the shoe is on the other foot now as the regional sides are trying to hurry players into signing.
But realistically you're looking at another seven to 10 days for contracts to be thrashed out, maybe another two to three weeks until the squads can be finalised.
The Welsh Rugby Union has imposed restrictions on players' wages, so that negates much of the haggling, but there's still plenty of things that still need ironing out.
