Cardiff gained some consolation for their Principality Cup semi-final defeat by Llanelli with a four tries to three win at Eugene Cross Park. Wing Dean Dewdney scored two first-half tries for Cardiff who led 27-14 at the interval.
Ebbw Vale came back strongly for periods in the second half, Byron Hayward replacing Scott Mitchell at outside half after 49 minutes and kicking a conversion and penalty.
But Nicky Robinson's four conversions and two penalties helped the Blue and Blacks to their first win in three league games in north Gwent.
Cardiff's backs, with scrum-half Richard Smith in outstanding form, posed repeated first-half problems for the Valleys side.

Ebbw Vale's pack impressed in the third quarter but their backs often let them down with handling errors. "It's never easy to come here and win," said Cardiff coach Dai Young.
"The boys showed a lot of character after Saturday when we let ourselves down.
"We stuck to our game plan and played controlled rugby."
