Welsh Premiership champions Bridgend ensured they ended the season undefeated at home with a last-gasp win over Pontypridd. Replacement Gareth Cull scored the winning points with the final kick of the game to snatch a 33-32 win.
Pontypridd fly-half Neil Jenkins had looked to have stolen the points when he kicked an injury time penalty of his own.
But Bridgend's never say die attitude came to the fore once again to protect their proud home record.
The sides managed a try apiece in the first half, but the trademark accurate goal kicking from Neil Jenkins ensured the visitors enjoyed a 10-19 lead at the interval.
Young centre David Bishop scored Bridgend's try after full-back Matt James stole possession as Ponty launched an attack from deep in their own territory.
Warlow added the conversion and then struck a penalty between the posts minutes before the half hour mark.
Pontypridd finally found a way through Bridgend's ranks two minutes before the break when winger Richard Fussell finished off a fine three-quarters move on the left wing.
Jenkins was his usual accurate self with the boot, landing four penalties and a conversion.
Bridgend came within two points of Ponty after 20 minutes of the second half thanks to a Cory Harris converted try and Cull penalty cut.
But the visitors soon found the perfect response as prop Duncan Bell burst his way to the tryline. Jenkins converted.
I thought we had lost it, but we had the luck at the end and I think we deserved it after such a long season Bridgend director of rugby Allan Lewis |
Bridgend were obviously desperate to avoid defeat and proceeded tp pill the pressure on their opponents in the closing stages. A long period of sustained pressure eventually led to Canadian prop John Thiel crossing for a third Ravens try and a fourth quickly followed to put the home side a point ahead.
Hooker Ben Phillips was credited with the score after being driven over by the Ravens pack.
Cull wasted the opportunity to give his side some breathing space by missing both conversions.
Those misses looked to have cost Bridgend the game when Jenkins kicked an injury time penalty.
But Bridgend's determination paid off in the dying seconds when they were rewarded with a penalty of their own almost straight from the kick-off.
Cull made no mistake this time to see his side home.
