Bridgend keep perfect record
Bridgend 42-22 Ebbw Vale

Aisea Havili
Havili celebrates in his own unique style
The Ravens maintained their 100% Welsh Premiership return with a crushing win over Ebbw Vale.

The home side ran in six tries in a dominant performance, including two for Tongan wing Aisea Havili.

The Steelmen never looked like making a challenge as their traditional strengths - the scrum and line-out - came out a clear second best.

Bridgend still trail league leaders Neath by four points, but they also have four games in hand.

Ebbw Vale opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a penalty from full-back Mark Meenan after Craig Warlow killed the ball on the floor.

The home fly-half made amends soon after, with a delightful grubber kick through the flat defence of the Steelmen. The ball bounced into the hands of Siua Taumalolo who made no mistake with the touchdown.

The visitors had barely had time to recover when Warlow put full-back Gareth Cull clear for a run along the sideline. He was brought down just short of the line, but a quick pick-up gave Richard Mustoe the try, and Cull converted superbly from the corner.

A Matt James run down the left set up the third try, but this time it was a different wing who profited, Havili cruising in under the posts from 60m without a hand laid on him.

With coach Mike Ruddock fuming at Ebbw's missed tackles, things were looking bleak for the visitors.

But loose play from a Bridgend defensive scrum gave the Steelmen the chance to harry, and their leading try scorer Kati Tuipulotu piled over from close range for a converted try.

Cull penalties either side of half time settled any nerves the home fans may have felt, but it took some time for the Ravens to capitalise on their domination of possession.

A flowing move in the 60th minute re-opened the floodgates, the Bridgend backs spinning it from their own half and finding flanker Cory Harris on hand to claim a superb try.

Moments later a rolling maul rumbled the Ebbw forwards over their line, allowing prop Chris Horsman to drop down for a popular score.

Havili claimed his second score soon after, a shredded defence simply running out of numbers as the Tongan strolled over.

With a match-winning lead secured, the home side lost interest and there was a late rally for the Steelmen.

Replacement Nick Wakely got on the scoreboard and Rhys Shorney went over under the posts, but it was a case of too little, way too late.
