Percy Montgomery led the way for Newport with a brace of tries
Crisis club Swansea suffered more problems, although this time on the pitch, as Newport staged a fine recovery to eventually record a convincing victory.

Outside-half Jason Strange kicked 18 points for the Black and Ambers, while former South Africa star Percy Montgomery romped over for two tries.

Earlier in the week, cash-strapped Swansea went into temporary administration, slashing wages in the process to ease their huge financial worries.

But Swansea initially made light of their difficulties at Rodney Parade and the loss of their Wales squad players, unavailable because of the Ireland match next week.

After Strange had put Newport into a second-minute lead with a penalty, Swansea replied with tries by prop Dan Dorsey and wing Matthew Robinson.

Arwel Thomas converted both and kicked a penalty to ease the visitors into a shock 17-3 lead.

Newport were spurred into action and took control to score 32 unanswered points and regain the lead.

Montgomery lifted Newport with two sparkling tries to show his class and Jason Jones-Hughes and Ofisa Tonu'u also crossed.

Strange converted three of the tries and also landed a penalty and a drop goal.

Matthew Robinson's try proved in vain for Swansea
Swansea snatched their third try through scrum-half Sam Cordingley after a piercing run by Robinson, but Newport hit back soon after to keep the Swans at arm's length.

Simon Raiwalui scored a captain's try when he was bulldozed over with the help of the home pack, while Strange kicked his third penalty.

Swansea gained a consolation try in injury time through Shaun Payne.
