Morris linked with Natal
Darren Morris on the 2001 Lions tour
Morris could be the first Swansea player to jump ship
Wales and Lions prop Darren Morris could be the first Swansea player to jump ship after the club slashed player wages this week.

The 'Great Whites' skipper has been linked with a move to South Africa to play for Super 12 side Natal Sharks.

Swansea asked their players to take pay cuts of up to 70% after going into temporary adminstration.

Natal are struggling for front-row cover and Morris, who can play on either side of the scrum, could be a short-term answer to their problems.

The South African team lie third from bottom of the Super 12 with one win from three games, and Morris would be a valuable signing, with the Super 12 still having three months to run.

If he was signed until the end of the season it would leave him free to return to Wales in the summer and take up a contract in the proposed new provincial structure.

Morris, 28, built his reputation as one of the best props in the world ahead of the 2001 Lions tour.

Continuing doubts over his fitness saw Graham Henry drop him from his Wales side the following season, though, and he won the last of his 15 caps against Australia in November 2001.

Morris took over from Scott Gibbs as Swansea captain last December, but his club form has been disappointing and he has not featured for Wales under Steve Hansen.
