Parks is looking forward to creating history with Chris Paterson

Scotland captain Chris Cusiter has backed Glasgow team-mate Dan Parks to prove he has overcome his personal and on-field problems against Wales.

The fly-half has been recalled for Saturday's Six Nations match at the Millennium Stadium, with Phil Godman paying the price for defeat by France.

"He's been playing really well for Glasgow," Cusiter said of the 31-year-old's return from a 14-month exile.

"He's scored a lot of points for us and thoroughly deserves his opportunity."

Cusiter, 27, and Parks, 31, made their Test debuts in this fixture back in 2004.

"We've both come a long way since then," Cusiter said.

"It was a good six years ago and we've both got a lot more experience under our belts.

"To be starting for Scotland is also brilliant and it's a real privilege to be playing down at the Millennium Stadium."

Parks hopes to replicate his club form for Andy Robinson's team and said: "I've enjoyed the season and I'm looking forward to be back playing for Scotland.

"I'm just looking forward to bringing that Glasgow form to Scotland."

It marks a turnaround in fortunes for Parks, who failed to make the squad for last year's Six Nations and autumn internationals as well as suffering a drink-driving offence.

But he had been concentrating on his own game rather than worrying about being out of new head coach Robinson's plans.

"I never really thought about it," he said. "It's been a while since I had my last cap."

Scotland were dominated territorially by France on Sunday and big-kicking Parks has been brought back partly to remedy that.

"I like to think I can bring certain things into a game and obviously Andy's picked me for certain reasons," he said.

"The boys are quite disappointed with the result at the weekend, so we're really looking forward to stepping up and challenging Wales this week."

Saturday will see him earn his 48th cap at the scene of his first.

But that is not even half the number of team-mate Chris Paterson, who will become the first Scot to reach the 100 mark this weekend.

"For anyone to get to 100 caps is just an incredible achievement," Parks said.

"It says a lot about the guy. He's a great guy off the pitch and he gives his all on the pitch.

"A lot has been talked about his goalkicking and it is fantastic - he just doesn't miss.

"I'm looking forward to creating history with him this weekend."

Captain Cusiter, meanwhile, today denied Scotland are praying for rain by refusing to allow the Millennium Stadium roof to be closed.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland has questioned opposite number Robinson's "sanity" after it emerged he had requested the roof be left open, regardless of the playing conditions.

The roof cannot be closed unless both teams agree on the matter and it is understood Robinson believes he is well within his rights to demand it stay open.

"If you look at the style of game that Scotland want to play then it wouldn't make sense if we want wet conditions," the scrum-half said.

"Personally, I'm not bothered if the roof is open or closed.

"If Andy's made that choice then that's up to him."
