Mike Brewer has decided to leave Scottish Rugby after his bid to succeed Frank Hadden as head coach of the national side proved unsuccessful. Former All Black captain Brewer had been working as a forwards coach with Scotland since last August. Edinburgh coach Andy Robinson is the favourite to take over from Hadden, who stepped down in April. Robinson told BBC Scotland he was "not at liberty to discuss" whether he had yet been interviewed for the post. A five-man selection panel tasked with appointing the new head coach includes three former Scotland captains and ex-British and Irish Lions. Andy Irvine, Andy Nicol, Gordon Bulloch, SRU chair Alan Munro and Gordon McKie will choose Hadden's successor. Hadden stepped down following a poor showing in the Six Nations for a third consecutive season. Meanwhile, Robinson said he was relishing the prospect of coaching Scotland A when they play in Romania in the summer. He said the squad would include a number of uncapped youngsters who have the chance to prove they can make the step up to international level. "It's important to treat everyone as individuals and piece together a squad. I would like to think the squad we've got is very competitive," he said. "There will be some fresh names in it and it's quite exciting for everyone involved, plus there will be some experienced internationals going too. "Everyone travelling will have the opportunity to prove they're good enough to play international rugby. "For the youngsters going on this trip, it's their first step to show they can thrive in international rugby. If you want consistency of performance, then you have to win away from home." Scotland will play France A, Uruguay and Russia during their time in Romania.
