Scots Sevens call Evans and Hogg

Scotland winger Thom Evans
Evans is one of the fastest players in Scotland

Scotland have called up established internationals Thom Evans and Ally Hogg for the final two events on the IRB Sevens World Series.

The Sevens campaign goes to London (23 & 24 May) and Edinburgh (30 & 31 May).

Glasgow winger Evans and Edinburgh flanker Hogg will add experience to a team that has largely disappointed on the circuit this season.

"There's no substitute for out-and-out pace," said coach Stephen Gemmell. "To have Thom Evans is fantastic."

"Couple that with the likes of Hefin O'Hare and Andrew Turnbull and we've got some of the fastest players in Scotland available."

Hogg has been capped on 48 occasions by Scotland and Gemmell is delighted to have him on board for the games at Twickenham and Murrayfield.

"Ally Hogg has played every game for Edinburgh this season and is still hugely excited by the opportunity to play for Scotland Sevens," he added.

"Ally is a talented rugby player and has a lot of international experience so his involvement up front will help a lot with some of our regulars such as Roddy Grant, Scott Forrest and Colin Shaw."

Scotland are in Pool C with Fiji, Kenya and USA in London, while they are up against England, Kenya and Canada on home soil.

Scotland squad to compete in London (23 and 24 May) and Edinburgh (30 and 31 May): Scott Forrest (Ayr) captain, Mike Adamson (Glasgow Warriors), Thom Evans (Glasgow Warriors), Roddy Grant (Edinburgh), Colin Gregor (Glasgow Warriors), Allister Hogg (Edinburgh), John Houston (Edinburgh), Greig Laidlaw (Edinburgh), Hefin O'Hare (Glasgow Warriors), Colin Shaw (Glasgow Warriors), Jim Thompson (Edinburgh), Andrew Turnbull (Edinburgh)
