Glasgow Warriors head coach Sean Lineen has expressed sympathy for Scotland counterpart Frank Hadden, following the recent Six Nations tournament.

The Scots won just one of five matches for a third successive campaign.

"I feel sorry for Frank," said Lineen. "I've got a huge amount of respect for him but it's tough out there.

"Obviously, people are disappointed. You can still see some things that have gone really, really well. The defence, I thought, was outstanding."

Former Scotland centre Lineen says he was pleased with the contribution his players made to Hadden's side this year.

"Some of the Glasgow players have done exceptionally well and that's what I look for," Lineen added.

"I go back to the Evans brothers. Some of the breaks Graeme Morrison made were fantastic.

"We just have to look at where Scotland are at the moment. We're making progress.

"We're making a lot of line breaks and just not finishing them off."

Hadden has so far refused to comment on his future, which will be decided by the Scottish Rugby Union in April.

And when asked if he would be a contender to succeed Hadden, Lineen insisted: "At the moment I'm totally focused on Glasgow, nothing more.

"We've got six games to go. I've already completed the pre-season for next season as well as looking at the build-up of my squad."
