McGeechan will select the side for the Lions tour of South Africa
Ian McGeechan has said he will monitor the Heineken Cup for possible squad selections ahead of the Lions tour of South Africa next July.
McGeechan also has the task of helping two-time winners Wasps through Pool Two in the cup, but was tight-lipped on how far he thought his side would go.
"I think it's a very tough tournament to call," said the Lions head coach.
"There are always games at pool stages where every coach and player will say, 'This is one we have to perform in'."
The Wasps director of rugby believes Europe's premier club competition is now on a par with the Test arena in terms of skill level and intensity.
Speaking at the launch of the Heineken Cup at Murrayfield, where this season's final will be held, McGeechan said he would he would keep a close eye on British and Irish players during the opening round of pool matches.
"For players, it's a new challenge and I'll be watching with interest," said McGeechan.
