Parks will make his 100th appearance for Glasgow on Friday |
Fly-half Dan Parks believes Scotland can make a significant impact at the forthcoming Six Nations. "This is the best chance we have of winning it since my time in Scotland," Parks told BBC Sport. "When you look at all the squads, everyone is getting stronger and we have been gradually improving over the past few years. "There is a lot of strength in depth in every position so we need to get out there and do some damage this season." Scotland managed just one victory in last year's tournament and finished bottom of the table. But Frank Hadden's team showed signs of promise during a run to the quarter-finals at the World Cup. Parks is the established starter in the number 10 jersey but faces competition from Phil Godman and Chris Paterson. Before he can switch his focus to the international arena, Parks will be on Heineken Cup duty for Glasgow. He will make his 100th appearance for the club on Saturday's visit to Viadana. And the visitors must secure a victory to have any chance of setting up a make-or-break final group game at home to Saracens. Glasgow, who have never reached the quarter-final stage of Europe's premier tournament, beat the Italians 41-31 at Firhill in November. Parks scored five conversions, two penalties and a try that night and said: "It was a fun game to play in because it was so open. "We know it will be a very difficult match in Italy because a lot of teams have struggled over there. "But the boys are pumped up for it. "We've had a frustrating run recently with a few narrow losses, which can dent the confidence but it shows we are not far away."
