Scotland went down to a vibrant Argentina at Murrayfield |
Scotland have lost to Argentina in the quarter final of rugby's world sevens. The Scots went down 22-10 to the South Americans at Murrayfield and then lost 19-17 to Kenya in the semi finals of the Plate competition.
Gonzalo opened up with a try and Ramiro del Busto broke away for Argentina's second score of the day with Santiago Bottini converting.
Francisco Albarracin executed a second half try, as Scotland replied from Mark Robertson and Roddy Grant.
The Scotland Sevens failed to reach a semi-final for the first time this season, and coach Stephen Gemmell told the SRU website: "What a huge disappointment.
"When you get into the top level of this competition, you have to be clinical in attack and defence and we didn't play like that today.
"We tried to force too many things, which in fairness, Argentina responded to. We didn't play how we know we can play.
"We now have a real opportunity to have another go and finish as one of the top five teams in this competition."
Scotland went on to lose 19-17 to Kenya in the semi-finals of the Plate competition to round off a dismal day.
Home hopes had been high, following positive results against South Africa, Canada and Russia on Saturday.
