Beattie last played for Scotland in 2003 |
Border Reivers have signed Scotland back-row Ross Beattie, 28, on a two-year-deal. Beattie, who has played with Newcastle and Newport Gwent Dragons, was released by Northampton Saints last week.
He said: "I am hugely excited to come up to the Borders to team up with (head coach) Steve (Bates) again who I worked with at Newcastle for five years.
"I played with Alan Tait and George Graham when I was younger so it's nice to work with them as coaches."
Beattie, who played at U19 and U21 level with England, won the last of his nine Scotland caps in 2003.
Bates added: "It's great to see someone of Ross's experience, and leadership coming to Netherdale.
"I have worked with Ross before at Newcastle Falcons and he is a very dynamic and athletic player, I know he has a lot to offer the Borders."
