SRU president Andy Irvine is to stand for re-election |
Scottish Rugby Union president Andy Irvine will stand for re-election for a second term. A decision will be made by the clubs at the SRU's annual general meeting at Murrayfield on 30 June.
But it would be a surprise if the former Scotland captain, capped 51 times, was to be unsuccessful after a warmly received first year in the post.
SRU chairman Allan Munro said: "It's tremendous news that Andy has decided to stand for re-election."
Edinburgh and Border Reivers have improved in this season's Celtic League, although Glasgow have struggled, while Scotland enjoyed a successful Six Nations campaign.
"Scottish rugby is in a period of transition," added Munro.
"We recognise it is a time of great change, but change for the better - in areas of governance, greater accountability and performance on the pitch.
"Andy has played a vital part in driving this change and has a huge amount of respect among rugby supporters, our stakeholders and sponsors."
