Scott Barrow was with St Helens in Rugby League |
Glasgow have signed former Worcester and Orrell back Scott Barrow and versatile Rory Lamont from Glasgow Hawks after they impressed on trial. The 24-year-old Barrow, who had joined Rotherham until they hit financial problems, has signed a one-year deal.
Lamont, a product of Northampton Saints' academy, will team up with older brother Sean, the Scotland wing, on a short-term contract.
The 21-year-old had been registered by Hawks before his professional deal.
Lamont can play on the wing or at full-back.
Barrow, who can play at centre and stand-off as well as on the wings, was a Rugby League Super League winner with St Helens before switched codes.
He is in the Glasgow team for Saturday's opening Celtic League match against Connacht at Galway Sportsground. Glasgow chief executive David Jordan said: "Scott is a talented player and he has certainly made an impact in the two games he has played for us.
"He is an important signing for us when so many of our outside backs are international players.
"Rory had started training with Glasgow Hawks with the intention that playing for Scotland's leading club side would bring him to the attention of the Glasgow coaches.
"When Sean introduced his brother to us and he joined in with our training, we soon recognised his potential, which was displayed when he played for Glasgow in our warm-up games against Leeds and Sale.
"Our offer of a short-term contract to Rory has come a lot sooner that he would have expected and we are grateful to Glasgow Hawks, who had gone to some lengths to complete his registration with the SRU."
Glasgow head coach Hugh Campbell added: "Scott performed well in the warm-up games and it's good to be able to add a quality player to the squad.
"Rory has shown great promise and potential."
