Martin Leslie's contract with Edinburgh ends next moth |
Martin Leslie's 12-week ban as a result of foul play at the World Cup could also endanger his future with Edinburgh. The Scotland flanker is currently negotiating a new contract with the Celtic League club and being found guilty of kneeing an American opponent will not help the veteran's cause.
Leslie's current deal is due to expire at the end of next month and the ban means that he will not be available for some Heineken Cup and Celtic League games if he signs a new one.
Edinburgh chief executive Jim McKenzie said: "Before Martin went off to Australia, we were in negotiations with him about an extension to his contract.
"We are still in that situation. But, obviously, we will have to take this 12-week ban into account.
"He is a good player, a lot of the younger players look up to him and he is useful to have around.
"But commonsense says the ban has got to be a factor in the negotiations. It'll make him less valuable."
