Aisea Havili's withdrawal leaves Tonga understrength on the wing |
Celtic Warriors wing Aisea Havili has pulled out of Tonga's World Cup squad in a row over money. Havili was unhappy at being asked to pay his own way to join up with the squad in Australia and has resisted the Warriors' attempts to persuade him to go.
However, club-mate Sililo Martens has made the trip and will face some familiar faces in the pool stage as Tonga are in Wales' group in the tournament.
Scrum-half Martens, who took part in Bridgend's successful Welsh Premiership championship campaign last season, will give the squad experience behind the scrum.
Havili's decision leaves Tonga coach Jim Love understaffed in the wing positions, as he was forced to omit rugby league wingers Lesley Vainikolo and Tevita Vaikona because of their club commitments.
Revised squad: Inoke Afeaki (Japan, captain), Stanley Afeaki (Auckland), Anthony Alatini (England), Ipolito Fenukitau (Japan), Sione Fonua (Auckland), Pierre Hola (Japan), Sukanaivalu Hufanga (Tonga), Ben Hur Kivalu (Japan), Tonga Lea'aetoa (Australia), Edward Langi (Australia), Usaia Latu (Australia), Heamani Lavaka (Australia), Gus Leger (Counties), Viliami Ma'asi (England), Sililo Martens (Wales), Nisifolo Naufahu (North Auckland), Johnny Ngauamo (France), Milton Ngauamo (Wellington), David Palu (Wellington), John Payne (Australia), Kisi Pulu (Auckland), Ephram Taukafa (Australia), Kafolosi Tonga (Tonga), Sione Tu'amoheloa (North Harbour), Tevita Tu'ifua (Auckland), Sateki Tu'ipolotu (Australia), Lisiate Ulufonua (Tonga), Sila Va'enuku (Tonga), Viliami Vaki (Italy).
