Queensland police have announced "additional strategies" to prevent a repeat of the incident when a fan ran on to the pitch and tackled South Africa's Louis Koen in Brisbane on Saturday. A meeting of police, stadium officials and World Cup organisers took place at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium on Sunday morning before the game between England and Uruguay.
The head of Queensland police's World Cup security team, Dennis Bauer, did not give specific details about what measures would be taken.
"The safety of players and officials is paramount and in association with the event organisers we will be taking all necessary measures to ensure the appropriate level of protection," Bauer said in a statement.
On Saturday a 29-year-old from Sydney, his face painted in Samoa's red and blue colours, tried to tackle Koen as he converted Neil de Kock's last-minute try in South Africa's 60-10 victory.
The conversion was successful but in the act of kicking it Koen made contact with the fan, who was knocked unconscious.
He was taken to hospital for observation and later released into police custody, where he was charged under section 82 of the Major Sporting Facilities Act.
He is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
Coaches from both teams would not comment on the incident.
Suncorp Stadium, which had a crowd of almost 50,000 on Saturday, hosts two World Cup quarter-finals next week.
