South Africa captain Corne Krige believes his side will go into the World Cup quarter-finals in buoyant mood after thrashing Samoa. The Springboks ran in eight tries as they cruised to a 60-10 victory to seal second place in Pool C and set up a clash with New Zealand.
"We're very happy with that performance," said Krige. "The tight-five laid the foundation for us - now we've got some great confidence before the quarter-final.
"From today we said it's going to be do or die."
Coach Rudolph Straeuli said his team had been improving steadily since their defeat by England.
"We've always been looking towards New Zealand," said Straeuli.
"We knew it was a tough draw and that England, New Zealand or us would go out in the quarter-finals, so we knew what we were up against."
Fly-half Derick Hougaard - playing in only his fourth Test - scored 21 of South Africa's points, including a try.
Hougaard also took a big tackle from Samoa centre Brian Lima with 15 minutes left in the match, leaving him dazed for several minutes.
"It was awesome to score my try and after that tackle I'm very happy I'm still breathing," he said.
