 Tuiavi'i benefits from Tuilagi's decision |
Des Tuiavi'i has been added to the Samoan World Cup squad to replace back row forward Henry Tuilagi. Tuiavi'i, who plays Super 12 in Australia for New South Wales Waratahs, joins the squad's training camp after initially being overlooked.
No official reason was given for Tuilagi's omission, although he had indicated he wanted to remain in England to play for his club Leicester.
The Samoan Rugby Union are unable to match their top players' club wages whilst they are on international duty.
And several clubs have said they will not pay their stars if they are absent during the World Cup in Australia, forcing players to make tough decisions.
Samoa are in Pool C at the World Cup, which starts on 10 October, with South Africa, England, Uruguay and Georgia.
