Brooke: England need bulk
England's Richard Hill
Richard Hill has been injured since England's first game down under
Zinzan Brooke is adamant England can still win the World Cup as long as they do not panic.

England's stuttering campaign has left fans worrying Clive Woodward's team will return from Australia empty handed.

But Brooke insists they have the reserves of talent and experience to beat France on Sunday and go on to win the final.

In order to do so, the All Black legend believes Woodward needs to draft in the big boys in the back-row.

"You want guys who can carry and tackle in the heat of battle so I think they need to start with Joe Worsley, Richard Hill and Lawrence Dallaglio," Brooke told the BBC Sport website.

"Lewis Moody has been found wanting and at this level and in this match you need bulk. Worsley has that. Moody and Neil Back do not.

"And even at 90% Richard Hill has to play - he is too important to leave on the sidelines."

Brooke feels the benefits of fielding the trio are twofold in that they will counter the French back-row unit while creating space for Jonny Wilkinson to play his natural game.

Wilkinson looked out of sorts in the quarter-final victory over Wales until Mike Catt came off the bench at half-time.

With Catt outside him, a "definite starter" according to Brooke, and that back-row inside, the number 10 channel will be clear for Wilkinson to dictate the game.

"They will clear the fringes to help Wilkinson play and create the pattern that has served England well in the last 12 months.

"Wilkinson, like the rest of the England team, has been around long enough to know Wales was just one of those games."

It is debatable whether England have enough time to turn their form around before coming face to face with what has proved a formidable French side.

While England struggled past Wales, France overhwelmed Ireland in the last eight.

But the one thing England have on their side is experience, and Brooke believes that could prove crucial.

"As long as they don't panic there is no reason why they cannot turn their form around," he added.

"The training is there, the experience, the teamwork and all the quality - now it has to come together and the players have to stand up and be counted.

"For the last 12 months they have fired shots and controlled games, getting over their bogey of not winning outside Twickenham in the process.

"During that time they put down a benchmark for everyone else to chase.

"Others have matched them but England haven't moved on. They have since stalled, losing momentum and confidence.

"However, if their front-line players are involved and perform, England can rectify that."
