Woodward was supposedly unhappy with Watson penalising the front row

The Daily Mail newspaper claimed the England coach was unhappy with several second-half refereeing decisions.

But Woodward denies making any approach to the International Rugby Board (IRB).

"Contrary to the story that has appeared I have not written to the IRB over Andre's officiating of the final last Saturday," he said.

"I have only had one brief post-match conversation with Andre, at the IRB awards dinner last Sunday, and we didn't discuss the match in any detail."

The Daily Mail reported that Woodward was especially dissatisfied with Watson's penalising of the England front row, which ultimately led to Elton Flatley's last-minute penalty equaliser.

But the World Cup winning coach quashed suggestions he is about to lodge a complaint of any kind.

"I can also confirm that I have no plans to write a letter to the IRB in this matter," he added.

"However, I will be attending the IRB Coaches and Referees' conference in January 2004.

"Like a number of other coaches, I will be looking forward to a wide-ranging discussion, which is aimed at improving the understanding and communication between officials and international test teams."
