England opened their World Cup campaign in style by racking up a dozen tries in a one-sided romp against Georgia in Perth.

Clive Woodward's side topped the 70-point tallies of the All Blacks and Springboks as they too made light work of brave but limited opponents.

Georgia offered plenty of commitment and found themselves level at 3-3 after eight minutes, but England's superior class and fitness quickly told.

They had secured a bonus point by the 25th minute, and eight more scores followed in a rampant second-half performance, with Will Greenwood and Ben Cohen both grabbing a brace of tries.

Jonny Wilkinson was his usual impeccable self with the boot, landing seven kicks from seven, Paul Grayson's three missed conversions the only blot on England's copybook.

After a morning downpour in Perth, the wet conditions produced a series of handling errors in the early stages with Cohen and Jason Robinson both fumbling the ball.

Wilkinson put an early penalty on the board but when Matt Dawson was penalised at a ruck, Malkhaz Urjukashvili brought the scores level to the delight of the neutrals in the crowd.

England suffered a few teething troubles, Mike Tindall's kick ahead skidding off the greasy surface as Robinson chased in vain.

But the Bath centre was the first try scorer in the 14th minute when Ben Kay stole a Georgian line-out and Wilkinson's delayed pass sent him bursting through a tackle to score.

Five minutes later Dawson spotted a gap and accelerated through the Georgian defence and after a charge from Kay, Steve Thompson galloped over for the third.

Neil Back's alertness brought up the bonus point when Georgia failed to control the ball at a scrum on their own line.

But the Georgians refused to buckle and claimed several moral victories in the 15 minutes before the interval.

First they managed to knock Martin Johnson off the ball and then pushed England back at a scrum to another huge roar from the crowd.

Cohen collected a second-half brace

Their defence in the minutes before half-time was inspired, but Wilkinson still added another penalty to send England in 34-3 to the good.

England replaced Tindall and Dawson before half-time, with Dan Luger and Andy Gomarsall coming on and Robinson moving to centre.

Mark Regan, Jason Leonard and Lewis Moody all joined them in the second half as Clive Woodward utilised his bench.

Leonard brought up a statistical landmark when he replaced Vickery.

His 107th England cap brought his tally - including five for the Lions - to 112, one more than French legend Philippe Sella's previous world record.

The tries came at regular intervals in the second half despite the changes in personnel.

Dallaglio grabbed the fifth with a pushover score from a scrum before Greenwood finished off some powerful forward surges with an athletic dive.

Wilkinson converted Dallaglio's score to maintain his 100% success rate before departing after 46 minutes to be replaced by Grayson.

Georgia fly-half Pavle Jimshedladze did briefly stem the tide with a second penalty after 57 minutes.

But Cohen promptly collected Grayson's kick to hoist England up to 60 points with 20 minutes left, then stood up his man superbly for his second.

Greenwood collected his second before Robinson and Luger completed the rout in the final 10 minutes.
