Cox signs new deal with Warriors

Matt Cox has reportedly attracted interest from several other clubs

Young Worcester Warriors back row forward Matt Cox has signed a new one-year deal at Sixways.

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock revealed Cox was attracting interest from other top-flight clubs, but has decided to stay at Worcester.

"Matt has been a crucial member of the England Under 20 side this season," Ruddock told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"He has the ability to play right across the back row in all positions."

A product of the Sixways Academy, Cox made his Guinness Premiership debut in an away match at Wasps earlier this season. And he was one of the star performers for England Under-20s as they claimed the Six Nations Grand Slam.

Ruddock believes Cox has a bright future in the game, and praised the player's loyalty to the club that has given him his chance in the professional game.

"He was already at such a young age attracting a number of other club's attention, " said Ruddock. "But his desire was to remain loyal to Warriors after receiving support and development through our Academy system.

"This was an important reason for him wanting to extend his stay with the club."

The 20-year-old was also involved in the England Sevens squad for the recent tournament in Hong Kong.
