New man Clinton Schifcofske had a good game for Ulster |
Ulster (3) 24 Tries: Dewey, Cochrane, Nagusa Cons: Schifcofske 2, Wallace Pen: Schifcofske
Queensland Reds (0) 0 Ulster recorded a useful pre-season victory over a young Queensland Reds Super 14 outfit thanks to three converted tries in the second half. Matt Williams' side held a slim 3-0 lead at half-time after a Clinton Schifcofske penalty. Scottish centre Rob Dewey came off the bench to open the try scoring in the 44th minute with winger Chris Cochrane adding a second 10 minutes later. Fijian winger Timoci Nagusa added a third try right at the end. Ulster had earlier held the superior hand throughout the first half with Ian Humphreys having a useful debut before being replacement at half-time after receiving a minor knock. It was a superb break by former Reds' star Schifcofske that opened up the defence to allow Dewey to crash over in the 44th minute. Ten minutes later good work by Isaac Boss and Darren Cave put Acdemy winger Cochrane in at the posts with Schifcofske adding the extras again. Despite threatening the Queensland line on many occasions, it was left to Nagusa to bring the biggest cheer of the evening when he got his first try for Ulster. Wallace finished off proceedings with a touchline conversion.
