Holders the Ospreys are still looking for their first win in this year's Magners League after they were edged out by Ulster at Ravenhill.

Shaun Connor missed a last-gasp Ospreys penalty after Niall O'Connor had restored Ulster's lead seconds earlier.

Three O'Connor penalties helped Ulster lead 9-3 at the interval with Connor notching the Ospreys score.

Simon Danielli's try increased Ulster's lead but Andrew Bishop's try helped the Ospreys take a 16-14 advantage.

Ulster dominated the opening exchanges and O'Connor's fifth-minute penalty edged the home side ahead.

The Irish province went close to extending their lead after Roger Wilson's break but Tom Court was bundled into touch just before the line.

O'Connor slotted a difficult 22nd-minute to extend Ulster's lead before Connor opened the Ospreys' account.

The Ulster fly-half maintained his 100% record from penalties when he slotted another fine kick just before half-time.

New Ulster wing Danielli showed a fleet turn of foot moment after the interval when he charged 60 metres upfield but the move petered out after his off-load to Tommy Bowe.

However, Danielli was not to be denied in the 55th minute as he touched down after slick passing by O'Connor, Bowe and Mark Bartholomeusz.

At that stage, Ulster looked in control but the game turned on the hour when O'Connor's attempted clearance was charged down by Shaun Connor and Andrew Bishop charged over for the try.

Connor's conversion cut Ulster's lead to 14-10 and the Ospreys' fly-half quickly added another penalty to leave the minimum between the sides.

As mistakes start to creep into the Ulster performance, the Ospreys produced intense pressure and Connor's long-range penalty put the visitors 16-14 ahead with three minutes of normal time left.

However, O'Connor kicked Ulster ahead in the first minute of injury-time after Paul James' sin-binning before Connor missed his last-gasp Ospreys chance.
