Barritt does not want to be ruled out of selection for the Springboks |
Saracens are set to add South African centre Brad Barritt to their squad ahead of the new Premiership season. The 22-year-old, who plays Super 14 and Currie Cup rugby for the Durban-based Sharks, it expected to sign a three-year contract at Vicarage Road. Barritt will join fellow South African Wikus van Heerden at Saracens. Sharks coach John Plumtree told his club's website: "From a team perspective, losing Brad is a big blow for all of us." He added: "He is an outstanding Super 14 player, a good guy with great leadership qualities, but we are not going to hold him back." Barritt, who can also play at fly-half, added: "I wouldn't consider another option in South Africa. "The Sharks is my home, where I grew up, but this is a unique opportunity as a young guy to broaden my horizons. "I want to emphasise the point that I am not turning my back on the Sharks or Springbok rugby. "This is a unique opportunity for me as a young player to grow and improve by playing in different conditions." Saracens have already signed England lock Steve Borthwick and Wales back-row Michael Owen ahead of the new season.
