Barritt does not want to be ruled out of selection for the Springboks

Saracens are set to add South African centre Brad Barritt to their squad ahead of the new Premiership season.

The 22-year-old, who plays Super 14 and Currie Cup rugby for the Durban-based Sharks, it expected to sign a three-year contract at Vicarage Road.

Barritt will join fellow South African Wikus van Heerden at Saracens.

Sharks coach John Plumtree told his club's website: "From a team perspective, losing Brad is a big blow for all of us."

He added: "He is an outstanding Super 14 player, a good guy with great leadership qualities, but we are not going to hold him back."

Barritt, who can also play at fly-half, added: "I wouldn't consider another option in South Africa.

"The Sharks is my home, where I grew up, but this is a unique opportunity as a young guy to broaden my horizons.

"I want to emphasise the point that I am not turning my back on the Sharks or Springbok rugby.

"This is a unique opportunity for me as a young player to grow and improve by playing in different conditions."

Saracens have already signed England lock Steve Borthwick and Wales back-row Michael Owen ahead of the new season.
