Andy Farrell has signed a new two-year contract with Saracens which will keep him at the Premiership club until 2010. Farrell, 32, will be joined at Sarries by 16-year-old son Owen, like his father an inside centre, who has joined their academy on a three-year deal.
That raises the possibility they could play together in the future.
"Hopefully he'll get the chance to do that before I retire. It would be a fantastically proud moment for the family," Andy Farrell told BBC Sport.
"Owen has always wanted to play rugby and has worked really hard. He realises he's at the bottom of the ladder and has a lot of hard work ahead of him, but he deserves this chance."
As for his own situation, Farrell insists he is happier and fitter than ever after a difficult start to his rugby union career.
The centre struggled early on after switching codes from rugby league and he admitted: "If you'd have asked me when I first joined and things weren't going so well if I'd be penning a new deal a couple of years on I wouldn't necessarily have believed you.

"But the last seven or eight months I've been feeling really good.
"It's a relief to be able to go into matches free of injury and free of the stress of pulling up and I'm really enjoying myself.
"There was never any doubt in my mind that I'd carry on once they offered me the deal and I'm delighted. We're building something very special here now."
