Raiwalui says he is moving to France to experience a new lifestyle |
Saracens captain Simon Raiwalui is leaving the north London club to play in France next season. The 32-year-old Fiji second row made 112 appearances for Sarries during his four years at the club.
Raiwalui, who has yet to confirm which club he will be joining, said: "I've always wanted to play in France.
"It's not really a decision based on rugby. For us, this is very much about a lifestyle change and the chance to experience a new culture."
Saracens director of rugby Alan Gaffney admitted that, while he was sorry to see him go, he understood his reasons.
"Simon's leadership qualities and performances have stood out both on and off the pitch this season, but this is a decision he has taken in the best interests of his family and I respect that," said Gaffney.
"He and his family have a great opportunity to experience a different lifestyle and I, along with everyone at Saracens, wish them all the best with their new life."
Meanwhile, Saracens have strengthened their backline for next season by signing Edd Thrower from Wasps.
The 24-year-old, who joins on a two-year deal, can play either full-back or wing.
"I've been at Wasps for three years now and not had as many first-team opportunities as I would have liked, so the time feels right to move on," said Thrower.
