Jones says the Sharks fans in the crowd of 9,586 were key to the win |
Sale coach Kingsley Jones has thanked the fans after the Sharks re-ignited their title challenge at Edgeley Park. The 27-13 win over Leicester on Friday means Sale take a break from the Premiership in fourth spot, three points behind leaders London Irish. Jones told BBC Radio Manchester: "We asked the players not only to do it for themselves but for the support here. "We let a lot of people down against Worcester but, under the cosh against Leicester, they were really vocal." He added: "It is really appreciated from the coaches and the players. "It is nice now to take a break from the Premiership and at least we can turn Ceefax on for the next few weeks and see us in that top four because it's very important. "It is very important to be there all the time. Okay, we've had a blip - I think the EDF Trophy was good for us even though we didn't get the results we wanted. "But the Worcester performance was not acceptable and it was a great way to respond against Leicester."
