Holley wants to be Ospreys boss but they continue to seek a coaching chief |
Ex-Wales wing Adrian Hadley has criticised the Ospreys for continuing to search for a new head coach, saying Sean Holley should be given the role. Ospreys high performance director Andrew Hore has been searching for a new coaching boss since Lyn Jones parted company with them in May. Holley is acting head coach and Jonathan Humphreys is his assistant. "If I was Sean and they brought in somebody above me I'd really be cheesed off," Hadley told Scrum V Radio. "If you were Sean Holley and you finished the year top of the Magners League and top of your European group and [you were in the] semi-final of the EDF [Energy Cup] and they bring in a coach above you, would you stay? Would you? | 606: DEBATE | "I mean that's absolutely ludicrous. The two of them [Holley and Humphreys] are doing a great job. "They provide half of the Welsh side, they are using the squad really well as well - just give them a crack. "Just forget about bringing somebody in above them. They are doing a good job. Just leave them to it. "Why not? The problem you will have is that they are doing that well, they bring a head coach in and there's only one way they can go. "The other thing is you notice other sides like the Dragons bringing in Lyn [Jones]. They are bringing in consultants. "They are not bringing in people above the actual coaches." Hadley says Holley clearly has the respect of the players at his disposal, adding: "And what do the Ospreys want? "They want a high-profile coach and finish middle-table or do they want a coach like Sean Holley who gets on with the players, gets on with the job and [they're] top of the league?" Earlier this month Holley said he would would love the chance to become the region's new head coach. New Zealand backs coach Wayne Smith recently turned down the role and Holley told BBC Sport: "I'd obviously be keen and delighted to take the role. "I don't have an ego. I'm just working hard - this is my region. It's where I live, where I was brought up in and where I've grown up. "I'm just doing my best - if that's good enough, then great." He continued: "I'm not a big name, I haven't played international rugby so I understand all the paraphernalia around the coaching issue. "But anyone who knows me knows I'm pretty passionate about it - I'll do the best I can." | I am just getting on with it. I'm delighted to be taking the role, for how long I don't know. It's clear we need another coach Ospreys caretaker Sean Holley | Holley said that no matter who takes charge, the Ospreys need to bring in another coach. "I am just getting on with it. I'm delighted to be taking the [caretaker] role, for how long I don't know. It's clear we need another coach. "We have a large staff and the boys need constant feedback, improvement and skill development. "We need some help - we've been doing particularly well - we're in a good position in all three competitions. "I'm quite happy the Ospreys have not made any snap decisions and they're diligently looking at someone to suit our coaching team and the players. "Whether it is someone to come in above myself and Jon [Humphreys] or work alongside us remains to be seen."
