Injury blow for Osprey Nutbrown

Jamie Nutbrown
Nutbrown has made two impressive Ospreys appearances

New Ospreys scrum-half Jamie Nutbrown will be out for around two months after breaking a bone in his foot.

The ex-New Zealand A, Waikato Chiefs and Canterbury Crusaders man, 27, arrived last week, playing against the Blues and Glasgow where he was injured.

"The injury occurred in a tackle where his left foot was trapped," said Ospreys physio Chris Towers.

With Mike Phillips injured and Justin Marshall gone, the Ospreys have Rhodri Wells and teenager Rhys Webb as nines.

Martin Roberts, another young scrum-half, left the Ospreys for the Scarlets in the summer, where he has started the season impressively.

Phillips hopes to be back from a serious knee injury in October, the Ospreys keen to get the Wales international back for the start of their Heineken Cup campaign.

Nutbrown has impressed since his arrival in Wales, but now faces a period of rehabilitation.

"He has been reviewed by a specialist, who unfortunately confirmed that Jamie will need to spend the next four weeks in plaster," said Towers.

"That will be followed by a period of strengthening and rehabilitation. All in all we could be looking at an eight-week lay-off."
