Ryan Jones believes the Ospreys will have more to celebrate |
Wales Grand Slam captain Ryan Jones believes he is on the brink of leading the Ospreys to major silverware. The Welsh region travel to Saracens on Sunday for a Heineken Cup quarter-final and six days later take on Leicester in the EDF Cup final at Twickenham. Jones told BBC Sport Wales: "Teams fear us now. I'm hugely confident the reward is going to come this season. "I've got a massive belief in this group of guys to a man. We are capable of beating anyone. It's down to us." | 606: DEBATE |
Jones says the star-studded Ospreys have benefited hugely from Wales' Six Nations success. He said: "It's about experiences. Wales went to Twickenham as underdogs with a huge Ospreys contingent and we won. Going anywhere now shouldn't hold that fear." He believes their 30-3 win over Sarries in the EDF semi-final at Millennium Stadium on Saturday 22 March augurs well for what lies ahead at Vicarage Road. The Tigers beat the Welsh region 41-35 in last year's EDF final at Twickenham and Jones also admits revenge is on their minds amid "perfect" circumstances for doing so. "So far so good," said Jones. "The most pleasing thing for me though is the manner in which we've reached that EDF final. "I thought the performance against Saracens was both professional and clinical and we deserved what we got. | If we were still there now I don't think Saracens would have scored |
"The boys worked really hard and it's probably one of the best Ospreys performances I've been involved in. "If we were still there now I don't think Saracens would have scored." The clash against the Tigers is also high in Jones' thoughts, saying: "You do well in these competitions by figuring in them regularly and it's perfect for us now. "It's hopefully set up for us to get revenge over Leicester. "We were bitterly disappointed not to win the EDF Cup last year as well as the Magners League. "We learned a big lesson at Twickenham against arguably one of the best teams in Europe and I think it will be a different story this year. | It's a challenge to be considered among the top teams in Europe. We've shown we can do it on the day |
"We've grown as a team and as individuals we've improved with the experiences we've had since then. "It's a challenge to be considered among the top teams in Europe. We've shown we can do it on the day. "If we can go out and play with a confidence and impose ourselves on the opposition there's no reason why we can't do very well. "It's just about making sure with the experience we've gained, we're able to apply it on the day. "There's no bigger confidence boost than winning, is there? And there's the manner in which we're doing it. "We've learned from those experiences as individuals and collectively and it's just making sure we can develop and do it for the Ospreys' badge."
