Owen will continue to play for Maesteg RFC |
Highly rated Wales Under-19 fly-half Gareth Owen is one of eight players who have been given Ospreys development contracts for next season. The Maesteg RFC product's displays in this year's U19 World Cup had sparked interest from the Guinness Premiership.
Wales Under-18 fly-half Daniel Biggar is another of the Ospreys eight.
Joining them are Ryan Bayliss (wing), Kristian Phillips (centre), Ashley Beck (centre), Rhys Webb (scrum-half), Rory Pitman (8) and Ryan Bevington (prop).
"Gareth comes to us from Maesteg and he will continue to play for his home town club in the Premiership during the coming season," Ospreys director of rugby Kevin Hopkins told the South Wales Evening Post.
"This will give him valuable game time while working hard throughout the week with our coaching staff to supplement this as he works towards his ultimate aim of establishing himself at regional level.
"The next few years are crucial to Gareth's development as a rugby player, and his decision to opt for the Ospreys ahead of clubs in the English set-up is a vote of confidence for the Ospreys Academy."
