Northampton pair Tom Smith and Matt Lord have signed contract extensions with the club.

Lions and Scotland prop Smith, 35, who has made 120 appearances for Saints in the last five years, has signed until the end of the 2007-2008 season.

"Tom is an inspiration. He is as fit as ever and is playing some of his best rugby," said head coach Paul Grayson.

New Zealand lock Lord, who made his debut in 2002/03, has extended his contract by two years until 2009.

The 28-year-old was voted player of the year by both supporters and team-mates at the end of the 2004/05 campaign.

"He is a crowd favourite because he wears his heart on his sleeve," added Grayson.

"His work rate is obvious and what he might lack in stature, he makes up for in enthusiasm."
