Centre Clarke out for four months
Northampton centre Jon Clarke
Clarke has played twice for England A
Northampton centre Jon Clarke will be out for four months after breaking his ankle on the first day of the season.

The 22-year-old - included in England's Senior National Academy squad in August - underwent an operation on Monday.

Clarke left the field after 31 minutes of Northampton's 25-23 win over Newcastle on Sunday.

"It's disappointing when players are injured and I feel for Jon as this was looking to be his season to establish himself," said coach Paul Grayson.

"On the plus side, he will hopefully be available for the latter part of the season and may still be able to force his way into World Cup contention."

Clarke joined Northampton from Bristol in 2003, and has played for England Under-21s and England A.
