Dragons book two friendly games

Newport-Gwent Dragons

Newport Gwent Dragons have organised two development fixtures as domestic competition pauses for the RBS Six Nations championship.

Coach Paul Turner is keen to provide players returning from injury and squad members some much-needed game time.

The Dragons will play London Welsh at Rodney Parade on 2 February and the Ospreys at Llandarcy on 16 February.

"It gives us an opportunity to get players back match fit, to try out different options," Turner said.

"We are proud of the number of young players we have brought into regional rugby from the academy and clubs in our region.

"These matches will provide an opportunity for players to showcase their talents and allow us to see how they perform at the next level without any league points at stake."

Fly-half Shaun Connor, who helped coach the successful Dragons Under-20s team during the autumn inter-regional series of matches, will lead the side.

Wales Under-20 or Wales Sevens players have not been considered for the first match.

Further players from club sides will be considered for the second match against the Ospreys.
