Charvis is Wales' record Test try-scorer for a forward
Ex-Wales international Colin Charvis has agreed a one-year deal to remain with the Newport Gwent Dragons as contact and defence skills coach.
As predicted by BBC Sport Wales, the 35-year-old will also be available to play for the Dragons if required.
"I am really glad for the opportunity to work with the Dragons for another year," Charvis said.
"If I can help with some skills and contact area coaching, it is a great experience for me."
Charvis is unlikely to add to his 94 Wales caps having missed out on selection for the two-Test tour to South Africa in June.
There had also been speculation that Charvis might opt to retire from playing at the end of last season.
But Dragons head coach Paul Turner is delighted to still have him involved at Rodney Parade.
"Colin has spent the past two weeks with the region on a temporary basis and it's clear that he has great ideas about the game and the future at the Dragons," Turner said.
"He has a huge knowledge of the game and a proven commitment to the Dragons region since joining us from Newcastle in 2006.
"Colin has already passed a great deal of experience on to the players around him and everyone at the Dragons are excited about his decision to stay with the club."
Charvis has been inspirational for the Dragons since joining from English Premiership side Newcastle Falcons in the summer of 2006.
The back-row, whose 94 caps for Wales is only bettered by Gareth Thomas, impressed so much that Turner made him captain in Kevin Morgan's injury-enforced absence.
"It's very flattering that the management here have been so keen to hold on to me for another year," Charvis added.
"I hope that some hard work in the role that they have created will benefit the region... and it's a good opportunity to continue enjoying my time with the region, following two very happy years
"There are some very good young players here and it would be great to pass on my experience of the past 13 years to them."
