Emerick has won many plaudits in his first season with the Dragons |
USA Eagles centre Paul Emerick has signed a one-year contract extension with Newport Gwent Dragons. The 27-year-old has established himself in the Dragons side since joining on a two-year deal from Overmach Parma last summer, scoring two tries.
Veteran scrum-half Gareth Baber is leaving the region, though, as he ends his playing days to take up a coaching role at the Cardiff Blues academy.
Baber, 34, made 78 appearances in four seasons with the Dragons.
"This offer was really too good to be true and I didn't think this would happen now," Baber told the South Wales Argus.
"I was going to have a managerial role with the Dragons. It's a place I feel passionate about, but, after thinking about it, the role with Cardiff was close to the competitive stage which I still have vibes about."
Also leaving the Dragons are props David Maddocks and Ian George, wing Matt Jess, scrum-half James Ireland and back-row forward Andrew Coombs.
