Redford Pennycook signs Newcastle Falcons extension

Newcastle Falcons openside flanker Radford Pennycook has signed a two-year extension to his deal, tying him to the Kingston Park club until 2013.

The 25-year-old joined Falcons from Championship side Bristol during the summer, and has since made 16 appearances for the club.

"It was a fairly easy decision to sign," Pennycook told BBC Newcastle.

"I love the city, I love the club, everything is going well and I'm enjoying myself up here."

Pennycook added: "I was fairly confident that we will stay up, and I still am now, although I would have been prepared to have gone down, it's not something that was a big deal to me."

Meanwhile the Bristol-born back-row could be out for several weeks after aggravating a shoulder injury picked up earlier in the season in Sunday's 22-5 win at fellow struggler Leeds Carnegie.

"I'd just come back from a niggly shoulder injury, came on, it was feeling good, and 70 minutes in the game I re-hurt it," he said.

"I took a bad tackle, got caught funny, and knocked it again and couldn't feel my arm.

"In a game like that it's best I come off and let someone on who can tackle with both arms.

"I'm going to see the doctor to assess whether we do more exploration or see a specialist, it could be a few days or a few weeks."
