Newcastle Falcons coach Tait hails squad character

Newcastle Falcons overpowered Leeds Carnegie in Sunday's win
The win at Leeds eases Newcastle's Premiership relegation worries

Newcastle Falcons head coach Alan Tait has praised his team's dominant performance in Sunday's 22-5 Premiership victory against Leeds.

The result leaves Leeds seven points behind the Falcon and ended a seven-match run without a win in the league for Tait's side.

"They've looked hard at themselves this week, which is the pleasing thing for me," Tait told BBC Newcastle.

"They looked at Leeds thoroughly and made sure no stone was unturned."

Tait hailed the influence of lock Andrew Van der Heijden.

The New Zealander, 26, was making only his third Premiership appearance following injury.

"Andrew has put in another performance, he's going to be a week in, week out player," Tait added.

"It's going to be his trademark. I thought he was outstanding."
