Falcons have momentum - Gopperth

Newcastle fly-half Jimmy Gopperth believes his side can maintain their winning habit after three wins in their last three Premiership games.

Falcons beat Bath at the Recreation Ground and followed that with a home win against Worcester and an impressive away win at London Irish last weekend.

"Once we got the win at Bath, an away win, it gave the team the confidence we needed," Gopperth told BBC Newcastle.

"We're slowly building. Even with the draws and losses we're improving."

The New Zealander added: "We don't want to take a step backwards."

Falcons had endured a slow start to the campaign, drawing three of their first four games and slipping to defeat in the other.

However with a host of new signings and some key departures at Kingston Park during the summer, Gopperth believes the team has taken time to take shape but is happy that the club is taking steps in the right direction at this stage.

"We look at our performance and if we're on the increase we're happy," he added.

"I've been here for a good chunk of time now and I'm getting used to the way other guys play, and they're getting to know my game too."

Gopperth joined Newcastle during the summer having played for North Harbour in the Air New Zealand Cup and Blues in the Super 14 competition.
