Young impressed on his maiden England sevens tour |
Newcastle Falcons scrum-half Mickey Young has targeted a regular first-team spot as he prepares for Sunday's European Challenge Cup tie with Parma. Young, 19, impressed on England sevens duty at the start of December and is eagerly awaiting his European debut this weekend. "I've heard a few things about how they play and I'm desperate to get involved," he told BBC Radio Newcastle. "I want to be the number one but just coming on making an impact has helped." Along with Rob Miller and Rory Clegg, the Hartlepool-born teenager is one of a handful of young Falcons on the fringes of the first team. And Young admitted he is prepared to sacrifice his international aspirations in order to push for a regular slot in the Falcons side. "There's going to be conflict between Falcons and England but my loyalty is going to be with the club," he said. "If allowed to go away with the sevens then perfect, I'd love that. "But I'm desperate to play here, and that's what I've set my sights on."
