Tait should be fit in time for England's November internationals |
Newcastle's exciting young English centre Mathew Tait will be out of action for up to six weeks because he needs to have a knee operation. The 20-year-old England international injured himself during kicking practice and will have an operation on Friday.
"Mathew has a slight cartilage tear which hasn't settled down," said Newcastle rugby director John Fletcher.
"He will have an operation tomorrow to tidy that up, and we are probably looking at four to six weeks out."
Tait, who was the star of the show as England won silver in the sevens competition at the Commonwealth Games, is likely to feature in England's November internationals.
"He could have actually played this weekend - the injury isn't that bad - but it is in an awkward place on his knee," said Fletcher.
"He may well have been playing in pain until it was sorted out so we have made the decision to operate and get it out of the equation altogether."
