Wasps claimed their fourth title in six years on Saturday

Wasps head coach Shaun Edwards paid tribute to his team's fighting spirit after they came from 10th at Christmas to be crowned Premiership champions.

"In life you need resilience, and certainly in sport," he said.

"This is what this team has shown over the last eight months and the last six or seven years.

"This season is a prime example of that. Let's be honest, at certain times you wouldn't have given us a cat in hell's chance [of winning the title]."

Edwards picked out the back row trio of retiring captain Lawrence Dallaglio, Tom Rees and James Haskell for particular praise after the 26-16 win over Leicester in Saturday's Premiership final.

"In the first half there's no doubt we had great defensive dominance," he said.

"I thought the work at the breakdown by our back row, in particular, was absolutely world class - the number of turnovers we got in the contact area was a credit to them."

Wasps director of rugby Ian McGeechan widened the praise to include the whole of the Wasps pack.

"The half-backs were able to take to control of the game because the forward platform in the first half was quite incredible," said McGeechan.

"The scrummaging and the line-out play was so stable. That meant we could be really competitive at the breakdown as well because it put us on the front foot and it makes a big difference when you're doing that."

The match was the last appearance of Dallaglio's remarkable career and Rees was delighted that Wasps managed to send him off in style.

"We will all miss Lawrence a huge amount. He has brought a huge presence to the team, both as a player and a leader," he said.

"I am confident from that mentality he has worked really hard to instil, we will go forward from here."
