London Wasps flanker James Haskell says it would be a great honour to be asked to be England captain but he is concentrating on his club form for now.

The 22-year-old told BBC London: "It would be a great honour if I was ever asked to be captain of my country."

"Phil Vickery's doing an amazing job at the moment and I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon."

Haskell has made five appearances for England but was overlooked for the World Cup squad in the autumn.

"I've got a big enough challenge of getting in the England team again and staying in the Wasps team but if I was ever asked it would be a fantastic honour," he added.

There have been calls for England to appoint a new young leader in the same way Will Carling was appointed captain at the age of just 22 in 1988.

Phil Vickery is the current England captain and has won 64 caps for his country and there is no indication that current head coach Brian Ashton is looking to appoint someone else.
