Dallaglio is back in action after surgery on his ankle in May |
Lawrence Dallaglio admits his chances of playing in next year's World Cup will be all but over if England do not select him for the Six Nations. The Wasps captain, 34, returned last month after surgery and was not picked for England's autumn internationals.
"If I am not involved in the Six Nations then there is every chance I won't be involved in the World Cup next year," Dallaglio told BBC London.
"If I can improve my Wasps performances then who knows what might happen."
Dallaglio, who won the World Cup with England in 2003, decided to retire from international rugby in August 2004 after nine years of service and 73 caps.
But after recovering from a fractured ankle, suffered on the 2005 Lions tour, Dallaglio controversially returned to the England fold for this year's Six Nations although he did not start a game.
This summer he had an operation to remove a metal plate that was inserted in his ankle and returned against London Irish on 8 October.
But Dallaglio's return did not come in time for him to be included in the England squad that will take on New Zealand, Argentina and South Africa (twice) this month.

"I think there is a bit of realism with the fact I am not in the England squad," Dallaglio added.
"I am four games into a comeback from injury, two of those games went pretty well and two not so well.
"I have to improve and, to be honest, a game against the All Blacks this Sunday would be getting a little bit ahead of myself.
"There are some tough games over the next four weeks for England, they are going to get through quite a few players and if I can keep producing some decent performances then I might be in with a shout."
Dallaglio, whose side travel to Premiership champions Sale on Friday, says he is happy with his recovery.
"I am working hard," said Dallaglio. "I have a lot more movement in my ankle and a lot more mobility in my leg.
"After I injured my knee in 2001 it took me six months to get back to where I needed to be. It's the same with the ankle.
"The main thing is that I am enjoying my rugby and the competitive atmosphere we have at Wasps."
