Thompstone scored his latest try against Worcester at Sixways |
London Irish winger Adam Thompstone has signed a two-year senior contract with the club. Thompstone, scorer of seven tries in 10 appearances this season, joined the Irish academy from Harlequins in 2007. In addition to being the club's Young Player of the Year, the 21-year-old has been nominated for Discovery of the Season at the Premiership awards. "Adam is an exciting prospect which we're looking forward to developing further," said coach Toby Booth. "He is the latest talent to emerge from our Academy production line. "We gave him an opportunity to show what he could do earlier in the season and he took it. He is a prolific try scorer as his strike rate in the Guinness Premiership proves." Thompstone said: "Over the past two seasons Toby Booth and Mike Catt have helped me develop greatly as a player. "When the opportunity arose, they gave me a chance and backed me all the way. London Irish has been an exciting place to be this season and I'm sure there's much more to come." Thompstone, born in Epsom, learned his rugby at Sutton and Epsom RFC, before going to Whitgift School, where he was a member of the team that won the Daily Mail Under 15 Schools Rugby Cup. He has played for England at Under 20 level.
