Hewat is set to start at fly-half against Northampton |
London Irish's Peter Hewat is promising an improvement in attitude as the Exiles face Northampton on Saturday. Hewat said the team were "embarrassed" by their 30-32 defeat by Bourgoin in the European Challenge Cup last week. "From 1 to 22 we rocked up on Thursday night expecting to win. We didn't pay the opposition enough respect. "I can guarantee we won't be complacent again and I guarantee that we're not looking further than Saturday," the Australian told BBC Radio Berkshire. "We feel that this is the most important game of the year," the versatile back said. "We let ourselves down on Thursday, but we've spoken about it and put it to bed." Irish travel to Northampton third in the Premiership, knowing that a place in the play-offs is well within their grasp. But Hewat said they would not allow themselves to look beyond the task in hand. "We fell into the trap last week of talking about silverware and where we wanted to be in a month's time. "We're capable of winning silverware. There's definitely the potential and the hunger, but we need to make sure we don't look too far ahead." Northampton versus London Irish kicks off at 1500 BST and is live on BBC Berkshire.
